Wild & Wise Mother Deer
Knowing how elusive deer can be, I came across a herd of deer during a trip to a wildlife refuge in Barrington, RI. My mother and I were taking a leisurely early Winter hike and towards the end she pointed out a herd of deer just beyond the crop field.
Deer live in herds with females coming together and caring for their young. When the herd disappeard behind the mountains of sticks in the woodland, this elder deer stayed behind. She stared at us for quite a while before rejoining the rest of the herd inside the forestry.
Wise and protective mothers of all species love and never think twice about taking risks of life for their offspring’s protection. With the stern yet knowing look on her face, this Mother Deer gave me a chance to photograph her in her habitat before the sunset and the snow began.
